Should writers blog?

by | Mar 19, 2013 | Tips For Writers | 2 comments

When I first started freelancing in the entertainment industry in 2005, I decided I wanted to have my own blog to post entertainment stories. While the blog has been defunct for the last few months, starting that blog made me realize how much hard work is involved in blogging.

On the surface it seems like you would only need to take a few minutes out of your day to construct a blog post and you’re done. When in reality its much more to it than that.

There’s the coming up with something unique to write about every single day (which to me is the hardest part), then the actual writing of the posts, and finding a picture or some kind of media to compliment your story. Just typing that makes it sound simple, but it’s definitely a lot more challenging than it seems.

When I started my publishing company I had no intention of creating a blog for it. As a matter of fact, I resisted it for as long as I could and then in time I found it to be the best platform for me. So blogging on my entertainment blog ceased and I’ve been blogging here ever since.

Should every writer blog?

It’s unlikely that every writer will have the time to blog with writing and all. But…if you have about an hour a day (maybe more depending on how long it takes you to write) and feel that you can consistently post a few times a week, its a great way to engage your target audience and draw traffic to your site everyday.

Do you have a blog? Do you blog everyday? What are some of your challenges as a blogger? Please share in the comment section below.

I am new to the blogging world, and I found every word you said to be true. However I love it and I am some what addicted. I find it quiet satisfying when I post a new article. Sometime I feel like I have biten of more than I can chew, since I also write for another blog besides my own. When I get discouraged I remember than I am building a fan base, and have a very small one now I still feel obligated to getting something posted. This always is the push at 2am when I'm editing for the final post.
