How To Title Your BookHi YouTube! Author Stefanie Newell and this is The Life Of A Writer channel.

Today’s video – How To Title Your Book! So if you want to connect with readers and sell more books, make sure to subscribe and get new content to your inbox every Tuesday! But in this video, I’m going to

be sharing the strategy to help you title your book.

So the first thing you want to do as it relates to creating a book title, is you want to determine if there are any current trends as it relates to the genre that you’re writing in.

So step number one is to go to Amazon and go specifically to the category or the genre that you write in. And you want to figure out if there are any common threads that are happening across the genre (especially as it relates to bestsellers). So for example, if you are writing in the nonfiction genre and you see that over and over again all of the titles have numbers… then this is something that may give you an idea of what’s working well! So for example if a lot of the books say five ways to lose weight, seven ways to save more money, then you know that there is a common thread there (that numbers are being used within titles to entice people.)

Brainstorming how to title your book

Now we’re going to start brainstorming. So before you ever even start the research process, you probably had a few book title ideas, because most of us have the book title before we ever even have the full and complete idea for our book. So you want to just compile a list, whether it’s in Microsoft Word or Excel, wherever it is that you want to put it and you want to start writing a list of all of your book ideas. Now it doesn’t matter if your idea is good or not because sometimes those bad ideas spawn good ideas.

If you’re having difficulty coming up with book titles consider naming your book after one of the characters. So for example, Harry Potter or The Hobbit. Also is there a memorable line within your book that you can also use for the title?

So go back and peruse your manuscript and see if there’s something that jumps out at you! And then lastly consider your theme. Your theme may be a great way to incorporate it into your title.

Tips for how to title your book

So a few things to consider… Make sure that you create a title that’s catchy and easy to remember! And also don’t make your title too wordy. And then the last thing that you consider is Amazon SEO.

Now I recently created a video where I go into way more detail about how Amazon SEO can help you and help your book and how it specifically relates to titles. So I will definitely link that in the description box below.

But you definitely want to give thought to all of those different things when creating a title. Ok so now you have a list compiled. What I want you to do is narrow that list down to one.

And it’s that one title (that deep down in your gut) you feel like this is the one. Once you have that one title you’re gonna go on Amazon and you’re gonna search Amazon to see if there are any other books with the same title. What you’re trying to do is determine if there are any other books that have that title so that you don’t have any market confusion.

If you search Amazon and there are no other books with that title, then you may just have your title! The next step is to tell as many people as you can what your book title idea is. What is their reaction? If they’re excited about the title, then that is your title for your book!

But ultimately this is the process for finding the title for your book! Are you struggling to come up with the title for your book? Please share down in the comment section below.
