best apps for writers

Hi, aspiring writers! Writing Coach Stefanie Newell and this is The Life of A Writer channel. Today’s video is all about the Best Apps For Writers. In this video, I’ll share apps to help you take notes, focus on tasks, and more!

The BEST Apps For Writers 👏🏾 – App #1

So this first app is Evernote. Evernote comes highly recommended and like most of the apps that I’ll be mentioning can be used in various ways. I recommend that you determine how you can best use these apps, but I’ll be providing some suggestions on how I use these apps as a writer.

So as an aspiring writer, you’ll find that during the beginning stages of writing you’re constantly consuming content, whether it be a YouTube video such as this one or a blog post or even a book, but I’m really a fan of note-taking because it allows you to retain the most important details in an organized manner.

And that’s where Evernote comes in.

With Evernote, you can input typed notes or scan handwritten notes, organize them and it’s all instantly searchable and able to be shared with anyone.

You can also add to-do’s, photos, images, web pages, or audio and Evernote syncs across your devices so your information is always with you, everywhere you go.

App #2

This next app is ToDoist.

As a writer, there will be tasks that you’ll need to accomplish on a daily and even weekly basis and that’s where ToDoist steps in and makes things easier.

It helps you to be organized and focus on one step at a time. Which if you’ve been watching my channel then you know this is something I put a lot of emphasis on. Keep things simple.

ToDoist can be used for a multitude of projects (not just your writing projects, but this is one way to use it) as it helps you to organize tasks, remember deadlines with reminders and due dates, collaborate on projects by assigning tasks to others, prioritize your tasks with priority levels and ToDoist integrates with tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Amazon Alexa and more.

App #3

The next app is IFTTT. Now, this app is going to be perfect for those of you who have numerous platforms that you’re using and I like to think of it as an assistant that helps to make things easier for you.

This app is described as a way to connect everything.

Now the way you choose to use this app will be up to you because it’s designed to get your apps to talk to each other.

So I encourage you to scroll through and see how you can enhance your life. But I’ve been using this app to automatically share my youtube uploads to my Facebook page and to tweet whenever I upload.

So what this app did was took a manual task that I was doing every week and made it automatic.

Instead of feeling like you have to be everywhere doing everything, this app takes that overwhelm away.

The BEST Apps For Writers – App #4

Next up is ProWriting Grammar Checker. ProWriting Grammar Checker allows you to elevate your writing.

I like to think of this as more of an app for everyday use since most of us are texting, sending emails, and writing social media captions.

This app will correct your grammar, make word suggestions, and help you to improve the readability and style. And honestly, guys as you see your mistakes being corrected, it helps you to correct your grammar, be concise, expand your vocabulary, and more.

The BEST Apps For Writers – App #5

This next app I was excited to try out because I don’t know about you guys… but I’m one of those writers that still likes to put pen to paper, I like to use colors, and see things in my own handwriting.

And that’s where Jamboard came in. Jamboard is an interactive digital whiteboard developed by Google. This app can be used on both your phone and iPad, but I’m sharing from my iPad because there is a multitude of ways that you can use this app for both your fiction and non-fiction books.

For your fiction books, you can use this app to bring your characters and plots to life.

And for non-fiction books, you can mindmap your chapters.

So some of the things I like about this app:

You can collaborate with and share your jams with others so long as they also have the app.

If you’re anything like me and you enjoy using markers and pens, Jamboard allows you to draw with various pens and colors to bring your ideas to life.

And you’re also able to add sticky notes and insert photos and stickers.

If you’re looking for more app suggestions, I recommend you check out the writing apps playlist and I’ll see you in my next video.
