Publishing a book on Amazon? Here are the best tools to use to get your book ready for publishing.
First up is a tool for designing your book cover. Now of course, I highly recommend hiring a graphic designer on Fiverr or a site like 99 Designs who specializes in book covers. However, I do understand that some authors don’t have it within their budget. So Canva is a great option for book cover design, marketing materials, social media posts, and more.
Once you’ve signed into your account on Canva, in the search box type ‘book cover.’ Once the book covers pop up, you can scroll through the various options or use the filters on the left to narrow your search.
Once you’ve found a book cover that works for your genre, remember that all elements can be updated including the colors, images, and fonts. This way you don’t have to worry that your cover looks like another book using the same template.
Next up is Kindle Spy which is a tool for finding the best keywords and categories for your book.
KDSpy sits on your Chrome browser as your research assistant while browsing on Amazon. You can reverse engineer the bestseller categories, see how many books you need to sell in 24 hours to rank #1-20 which I feel is super powerful for newly launching a book. But you can also discover the popular trends & keywords in any book category, and so much more.
Once you’ve purchased KDSPy and have it downloaded to your Chrome Browser, you can begin your research.
Click the KDSpy logo in your browser and it will take you to Amazon where you can begin your keyword research. Choose a keyword that you believe your book could rank for and hit the KDSpy in your browser once more to learn the popularity, potential, and competition of the keyword.
Next up is Kindle Create. Now this is a tool provided by Amazon to help you to format the interior of your book. I know that a lot of you struggle with formatting your book, so this tool is invaluable as its free and very easy to use.
So once you have Kindle Create downloaded to your computer, you will click Create New, then Choose. Choose reflowable if you’re publishing a fiction or non-fiction book, then click Choose File in the lower right, and select the manuscript your are publishing.
It will take you to this screen where you can begin the formatting for your book.
Now on the screen, you’ll see an example of a template that I’ve personally set up by front matter and chapters. However, you can easily format your interior using one of the four themes provided. And let me know if this is a template you’d like me to make available for purchase as I have a fiction and non-fiction version.
Next up is Good Reads Author Program which is a tool that will help you to get sales and reviews for your book. The Goodreads Author Program allows published authors to claim their profile page to promote their book and engage with readers.
To join, sign in or create an account, and then search for your most book via ISBN, ASIN, or title. On the book, click on your author name. Scroll to the bottom of your author profile page. Click “Is this you? Let us know!” to complete and submit the application.
