GUEST BLOG: Admitting I am a writer
One of the hardest things for me to do after I completed my manuscript was call myself a writer. I didn’t think I could claim that title if I wasn’t published. I had to overcome some of my own misgivings, and put in a bit of effort, before I was confident enough to admit that I am a writer. First, I had to stop being embarrassed about writing romance. There’s this stigma that we romantics live with our heads in the clouds and have no clue about reality. I’ll admit that I’ve lived a happy life, but I’ve had enough…

Do you let others define your goals?
The other day I was having a conversation with someone I know and she shared that a guy she was interested in dating was a Michael Jackson impersonator. She asked, “Why would he want to impersonate Michael Jackson?” “Who better to impersonate than Michael Jackson?” I asked. She replied adamantly, “He’s not going to become famous from it!” Her reply confused me and at first I was going to let the comment go, but then I decided what the hell? LOL. If you still have my attention….right about now I’m flipping the book over to the back cover. If it’s fiction, does the plot catch my attention? If it’s non-fiction, is there something I can learn? If you still have my attention…I’m opening it up…

Is the Internet the death of the bookstore?
Psst… I have a confession to make. “I’m an Amazon.com type of girl.” There I said it! I’m a writer and I make all of my book purchases online even though there’s a Borders ten minutes from my home. Does that make sense? Maybe or maybe not. Aside from book signings for my company, I can’t remember the last time I set foot in a bookstore. Heck, for that matter, I can’t remember the last time I bought a CD as opposed to downloading an MP3 from iTunes. Over the weekend, I was driving past the Borders in my neighborhood…

What made you become a writer?
This post is a follow up to a really good discussion we had on yesterday – Are you scared to call yourself a writer? If you missed that post, make sure you read it and leave your opinion on when you should call yourself a writer. On the flip side, I’m interested in knowing when you made the decision to become a writer. I’ve talked about this before on the blog so I’ll make my story brief. If you want to read the longer version, you can click here. While I loved writing and have written since a very young age,…
